Chiltern Railway will reduce its timetable by 42 trains each weekday from Monday 4 January to ensure that vital train services for those needing to travel can keep running.
The move follows an increase in sickness and also the number of staff needing to isolate due to COVID-19. It is designed to ensure the train operator can deliver a service and a timetable on which customers can rely.
Almost all of the Chiltern network is now in Tier 4, so customers in these areas should anyway make fewer journeys if possible and only travel if they need to, such as for work or school. The new timetable will remain in place until further notice, though services will be kept under regular review.
Chiltern Railways managing director Richard Allan said: “It’s vital that customers can rely on the services that we run and it’s for this reason that we have implemented these changes to the timetable. This new timetable will ensure that we can continue to run a safe and reliable service for those who need to travel.
“We strongly encourage our customers to continue following Government advice if they have to make a journey with us, such as wearing a face covering at all times unless exempt, and maintaining social distancing.”
