When Transport for London staff opened up Oxford Circus underground station on Boxing Day (26 December 2020), they found the Victoria line and Bakerloo line platforms and public areas covered with graffiti that been applied while the station was closed for Christmas.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called and are investigating.
Due to that ongoing investigation, and to the Christmas holiday, Rail Insider was unable to get satisfactory answers to questions about how the culprits gained access and what CCTV records show.
However, Oxford Circus has extensive CCTV coverage, so BTP should be able to get some information from that. Also, as well as daubing words such as “Grenfell” on the walls, the offenders also used known tags that have appeared in other attacks. These should also help BTP with its enquiries.
Meanwhile, London Underground has cleaned up some of the paint and is working to remove, or cover up, the rest. The station remains open for passengers.
