Singapore rail operator SMRT Train (SMRT), supported by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), has signed a new 10-year contract with Bombardier Transportation to provide long-term service support for 636 Movia metro cars currently being delivered for the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL).
The new integrated fleet services contract, which has an option to be extended for a further 20 years, includes technical support and spares supply at the NSEWL.
Jayaram Naidu, president of Bombardier Transportation’s Southeast Asia region, commented: “We are proud to continue playing such a major role, contributing to Singapore’s public transport network and supporting our customer’s ambitious expansion plan to grow its rail network to 360km by the 2030s.
“This order demonstrates the confidence LTA and SMRT have in our industry-leading services capabilities. We will maintain their assets to the highest levels of reliability and availability throughout their lifecycle and ensure that the trains move people safely and on-time to their destinations.”
This is Bombardier’s third order for the NSEWL. The first covered 396 metro cars, followed by a second for an additional 240 metro cars.
This new service contract, which follows the March 2018 contract awarded by SMRT for 10 years of maintenance and spares support contract for the 32 Innovia automated people mover cars operating on the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (LRT) line, means that Bombardier will have over 1,000 vehicles under maintenance across Southeast Asia by 2024.
