The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is investigating how a freight train passed through two signals at danger, some distance apart, then crossed a junction and damaged a set of points.
The incident happened at around 09:54 on 7 May 2020. A freight train passed a red signal protecting Crofton West junction in West Yorkshire and came to a stop 250 meters beyond the junction, damaging a set of points as a result.
The train had already passed another red signal at Hare Park junction around two minutes earlier.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has undertaken a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding this incident and, having assessed the evidence which has been gathered to date, has decided to publish a safety digest. This will be published on RAIB’s website in the next few weeks.
