Network Certification Body, the Network Rail subsidiary that provides a system-wide approach to railway assurance and certification on infrastructure, vehicle and plant projects, has appointed Dr George Bearfield to its board as a non-executive director.
Dr Bearfield’s appointment comes just three months after Neil Hannah was appointed as chairman, succeeding Tim Dugher.
Currently health & safety director at Rock Rail, with responsibility for Rock Rail’s safety management systems including safety assurance responsibilities for all its fleets, George has 25 years of experience in safety assurance and engineering.
Before that, he was with RSSB for 13 years, ultimately as director of system safety and health when he was responsible for RSSB’s work to support the rail industry in all aspects of its health and safety management and assurance processes and capabilities.
George also played a key role in setting up the national rail health and safety strategy and in delivering associated programmes, including sponsoring the successful relaunch of the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) in 2018.
Commenting on his appointment, George said “Robust and dependable technical assurance is absolutely essential to the railway and since its inception NCB has proven itself as one of the key players in this field.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the board of NCB and its executive on continuing that journey and ensuring that NCB continues to provide its customers with the assurance they need as the railway evolves for the future.”
