QTS Group, which, in conjunction with Network Rail Scotland’s works delivery team, donated 40 pairs of Bollé safety glasses to the Adult Theatre team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow last week, is helping NHS workers to protect themselves in another way too.
The company has teamed up with 3D Crowd, a group of almost 5,000 volunteers around the UK who are using 3D printers to supply face shields for NHS staff.
At QTS, research and design engineer Dr Hassan Al-Budairi has been working to utilise the company’s 3D printer to create the shields’ frames (top headbands and bottom reinforcements).
These will be carefully packaged up and sent on to a central hub in Sheffield, where the frames will be assembled with clear visors to create the face shields and will then be distributed to frontline NHS staff.
Alan McLeish, QTS managing director, explained: “Not only is QTS helping to keep the railway moving by carrying out essential works on behalf of our client, but we’re also keen to continue helping the community where we can. So far, we’ve made monetary donations to foodbanks and charities in our local office areas, but we’re also now doing our bit to support frontline workers.
“This is a time when as a business, a community and a nation we all need to pull together to help each other as much as possible and I’m glad that we have been able to provide some protective equipment to the NHS staff during this difficult period.”
