Rail travel drops still further

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps has announced that rail travel, in the second week of the Coronavirus (CORVID-19) epidemic, has dropped still further.

The figures, which he shared with followers in a tweet, show:

  • Rail journeys 85 per cent lower last week than the same week in 2019;
  • Footfall at stations 93 per cent lower than in 2019;
  • And, most telling of all, footfall was 78 per cent lower than the previous week.

So, the British public really is staying at home to save lives.
