Costain names Simon Ellison as Rail Sector Director

Simon Ellison has been named as Costain's new Rail Sector Director.

Simon Ellison has been appointed to be Costain’s new rail sector director.

A chartered engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Simon joined Costain in 1997 where he has held several senior leadership roles. Most recently, he was technology capability director and, before that, highways sector director.

Now he will be responsible for shaping and expanding the Group’s rail infrastructure delivery expertise to meet the current and future needs of UK rail clients. He will be take charge of delivering strategic national infrastructure upgrades, regulatory commitments and essential business performance improvements.

In his new role, Simon will focus on several key areas for growth – digital signalling, electrification programmes, strategic professional services frameworks and technology integration. These will complement Costain’s current activities – the complex delivery of stations and rail system upgrade programmes.

Costain’s managing director of transportation, Ian Parker, who was himself only appointed in May 2019, said: “Throughout his career at Costain, Simon has made a real difference in shaping the UK’s future transport infrastructure, leading numerous infrastructure programmes, sector improvement initiatives and significant sustained business growth.

“I am excited to welcome Simon back into the transportation leadership team as we expand our business in rail and wish him every success in his new role.”
