In July 2025, work will begin to rebuild Platform 2 at Basildon station, which was closed in September 2022 due to structural defects.

As result of the poor condition of Platform 2, train operator C2C  has been unable to allow 12-car trains to call at Basildon, though services have continued using shorter trains.

Platform 2 will remain open throughout the programme of work and, although the contractor will be operating throughout the day and night, there will be minimal impact on customers.

C2C’s head of civil engineering, Charles Isitt, said, “It is great news that from December, our 12-carriage trains will once again be part of the service for customers in Basildon.

“While part of Platform 2 is rebuilt, customers should expect minimal disruption, but as always our station colleagues will be on hand to advise.”

During the works, Southernhay Road will be subject to full and one lane closures.

The work will be delivered by AmcoGiffen.
