British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to the line in Lockerbie at 01:42 on the morning f 1 August 2023) following reports that two young men had gained access to a Royal Mail train, damaging signalling equipment in the process.
When they searched the train, two teenagers, one 17 years old and one 18, were discovered in a carriage and were arrested.
BTP officers on site found that a number of parcels in the carriage had been interfered with, although, at this stage, it is not believed anything was stolen.
Both young men have been charged with malicious mischief, theft and threatening and abusive behaviour.
