Knorr-Bremse climate targets validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative

Knorr-Bremse's climate targets for reducing emissions have been validated by the SBTi.

Global manufacturer of railway braking and other systems Knorr-Bremse has had its ambitious climate targets for reducing emissions validated by the internationally recognized Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Specifically, Knorr-Bremse has set targets of reducing its global production-related carbon emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 75 per cent from its 2018 baseline by 2030. This means that Knorr-Bremse has significantly increased the 50 per cent reduction target for Scope 1 and 2 emissions that was previously published in 2019.

On addition, the company’s absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transport and distribution, and the use of sold products are planned to be reduced by 25 per cent from the 2021 baseline level by 2030.

Frank Markus Weber, Knorr-Bremse

Chief financial officer Frank Markus Weber said: “We are delighted to receive the SBTi’s independent confirmation of our ambitious emission reduction targets. We have thus fulfilled our commitment and are once again demonstrating that we are serious about our sustainability management.

“We are a successful global player in the transportation industry, so we see ourselves as having a special responsibility to contribute to the achievement of the Paris Agreement targets.”
