Australian joint venture UGL Unipart has been awarded a five-year extension to its contract for the delivery of maintenance and logistics services for a section of Sydney’s metropolitan passenger rail fleet.

Worth approximately $900 million, this replaces a two-year contract extension that was announced at the end of January.

UGL Unipart is a 70:30 joint venture between UGL and Unipart that combines UGL’s asset management and maintenance capability and extensive knowledge of Sydney’s metropolitan passenger rail fleet with Unipart’s world class supply chain services to both the rail and vehicle industries. Unipart Group Australia will continue to provide its supply chain and continuous improvement expertise with the aim of delivering increased performance, reduced risk and optimised costs.

Glen Everett, managing director of Unipart Group Australia and chief executive of UGL Unipart said: “Over the past seven years the contract has delivered transformational change in the Auburn facility, drawing on Unipart’s core skills as Supply Chain experts. We are delighted that we can continue this work in partnership with UGL in delivering improvements in the maintenance of the Sydney passenger fleet for a further five years.”
