Time for a coat of paint at York

Raymond Gjuv applies the finishing touches to York's station clock.

It was time to apply a new coat of paint to the historic clock on York station over the Christmas period.

Dating from the 1870s, the famous clock, which has three faces, was looking a bit tired, so train operator London North Eastern Railway (LNER) called in the painter.

Raymond Gjuv, from international painting contractor Jack Tighe, based in Kirton Lindsey, North Lincolnshire, has done a splendid job, perched on scaffolding halfway up the station’s staircase.
