A ten-day partial closure of the railway between Waterloo and Clapham Junction stations is being planned between Christmas Day 2020 and Sunday 3 January 2021.
Network Rail is planning to renew completely the switches and crossings at Nine Elms junction. This is a big job, but it will reduce delays and crowding for South Western Railway passengers as otherwise trains would have to run at reduced speeds over parts of the track into and out of Britain’s busiest railway station.
Passengers are always advised to check before they travel over the Christmas and New Year period, as Network Rail takes advantage of the reduced demand for rail travel to carry out some of the longer jobs that it can’t do at other times without causing severe disruption.
Vauxhall and Queenstown Road stations will be closed for the duration of the work and there will be queuing systems in place at Waterloo and Clapham Junction stations to manage passenger journeys safely.
A normal service will resume on Monday 4 January 2021.
