Bombardier Transportation has delivered its first Innovia automated people mover (APM) 300 for Bangkok’s driverless Gold Line, which is planned to open its first two stations in October, followed by the full system in early December 2020.
The delivery was made on schedule and was marked at a special event attended by representatives from Bombardier alongside key stakeholders from Krungthep Thanakom Co. and Bangkok Mass Transit System. (BTSC).
Bombardier’s Innovia APM 300 system is an efficient, quiet and safe electric mobility solution suited to dense urban areas and airports. For the 1.7km Gold Line, Bombardier’s scope comprises three two-car train sets, a range of wayside systems, Cityflo 650 rail control for automated operation and full system integration.
The line will connect Krung Thonburi and Prajadhipok Road stations, providing a new rail connection in the Thon Buri district and integration with the city’s existing Skytrain. The APM system is being designed and delivered from Bombardier Transportation’s Engineering Centre in Bangkok, with the vehicles manufactured at the Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems joint venture in China.

Claudio Tiraferri, managing director of Bombardier Transportation Thailand, said: “The arrival of our first Innovia APM 300 vehicles in Thailand is a major milestone in our delivery programme for the driverless APM and monorail system solutions, coming soon to three of Bangkok’s new mass transit lines.

In addition to the APM 300 system for the Gold Line, Bombardier is delivering its driverless monorail technology for Thailand’s first fully automated monorail systems. The first trains for Bangkok’s Pink and Yellow Lines are due to arrive in October 2020.
Bombardier is also the signalling and wayside system supplier for the Bangkok Skytrain.
