Dr Thomas Ahlburg, the group chief executive officer of Swiss train manufacturer Stadler, has left the company after he and the board had different views on the company’s strategic and organisational development.
In the interim, group executive chairman Peter Spuhler will take over the function of group CEO once again. He had been CEO until 1 January 2018, when he handed the reins over to Thomas Ahlburg and moved over to become executive chairman.
In a statement, the board said that it had taken notice of Thomas Ahlburg’s wish to change his career direction and to become an independent entrepreneur in the future. Although leaving his post as CEO with immediate effect, he will continue to serve the company as a senior advisor until the end of 2020.
On behalf of the board of directors, Peter Spuhler thanked Dr Ahlburg for his great commitment to Stadler in his role as group CEO and in his previous position as CEO of Stadler Bussnang.
“Although not always of the same opinion, I have come to know and appreciate Thomas as a passionate and pragmatic CEO,” said Peter Spuhler.
Looking to the future, he added: “I am convinced of the quality of our employees and the management team, which is reflected in the rail vehicles and services that are reliably deployed around the globe.”
