SVR offers enthusiasts the chance to Adopt an Engine

Although its operations are still closed down due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) is maintaining its fundraising activities by offering enthusiasts the chance to adopt their favourite locomotive.

The famous heritage railway has launched five ‘Adopt-an-Engine’ packages, which each come with a selection of exclusive merchandise alongside a unique certificate and glossy photograph of the chosen locomotive.

Four levels of package are on offer, starting with the Bronze option at £30, for which enthusiasts will receive an engine certificate showing their adoption, a 6″ x 4″ glossy photograph of their engine, an SVR pen and a Freedom of the Line train ticket worth £19.55.

Silver and Gold packages bring an increased value of gifts until purchasers of the Platinum option (£100) seemingly receive everything but the SVR kitchen sink! (certificate, photo, pen, SVR enamel pin badge, SVR teddy bear, SVR mug, SVR T-shirt or polo shirt and two Freedom of the Line tickets worth £39.10 for the pair.)

Thanks to the agreement and generosity of its owners, the popular SR 34027 Taw Valley is amongst its selection of locomotives. Everyone who buys the top-level package for the engine will be entered into a prize draw for an once-in-a-lifetime VIP experience at the Severn Valley Railway.

The full list of steam locos on ‘offer’ is: SR 34027 Taw Valley, LMS Ivatt Class 4 43106 ‘The Flying Pig’, GWR 4900 Class 4930 Hagley Hall, LMS Stanier Class 5 45110 and LMR 600 Gordon.

For those who prefer diesels, the choices are Class 50 50033 ‘Glorious’, BR Class 14 D9551, BR Class 09 D4100and BR Class 09 09107.

All proceeds from sales of ‘Adopt-an-Engine’ packages and other merchandise will be used to support the SVR’s Fight Back Fund, which has been set up to mitigate against the loss of income the railway is facing because of the ongoing pandemic closure.

The SVR is at pains to point out that purchasing any of its ‘Adopt an Engine’ packages does not reward the purchaser with any ownership rights or exclusivity bonuses from the locomotive.
