New footbridge goes in at Cobham, Kent

Dyer & Butler has installed a new footbridge at Cobham, Kent.

A new footbridge has been installed at Cobham, Kent, on the Chatham main line between Sole Street and Rochester stations. The line connects London Victoria with Dover Priory and Ramsgate via Medway.

The replacement of an older structure by a new footbridge, which spans two third-rail electrified lines, was delivered by the Sussex-based rail team of multi-disciplinary engineering specialist Dyer & Butler. The project forms part of a package of structures work being undertaken by Dyer & Butler across the Southern region on behalf of Network Rail during Control Period 6 (CP6 – 2019-2024).

Although now replaced, the old bridge still serves a purpose. A section of it has been relocated to Dyer & Butler’s maintenance yard and will be used to train teams on refurbishment methods and structural interventions, particularly on how to use modern materials to extend the life of historic railway infrastructure.
