SLC Group has established a new company – SLC Operations – and has asked senior rail figure Cath Bellamy to run it.

For the last 10 years, SLC Rail has supported local authorities in developing and delivering rail infrastructure projects, particularly new and refurbished stations, route upgrades and freight projects.

Now, in heading up SLC Operations, Cath will create and lead the business to operate mainline train services, stations, and offer a range of independent training services.

SLC Rail managing director Ian Walters said: “It’s an exciting time at SLC, as we continue to grow our business, services and expertise.  We’re delighted that Cath – who has a strong track record – has joined the SLC group of companies to establish this new offering for our organisation.

“We have worked with Cath over many years in her previous roles and we are pleased to bring her capabilities, energy and ambition to lead this new business.”

Cath joins SLC Group from Vintage Trains, where she helped establish and then lead the charity-owned train operating company, providing main line steam charter services. Previously, Cath has also been managing director of Chiltern Railways and Hull Trains, as well as leading various large commercial projects for the Department of Transport.

Pleased with her new appointment, Cath Bellamy said: “The team at SLC have successfully established themselves as specialists in making local, major transport projects happen for local authorities.  At present they are building a number of brand-new stations and are working on multiple local authority sponsored rail initiatives.

“SLC Operations will widen our capability, allow us to build a capability to run trains and operation stations as well as help to open up avenues for careers in rail, helping to tackle specialist skill shortages across the industry.”
