Network Rail has issued an update on its repair work on the Gospel Oak to Barking line, brought about by a derailed freight wagon damaging two and a half miles of track just after 06:00 on Thursday 23 January.
The programme of repairs is almost half complete, with engineers having removed the damage and installed more than a mile of sleepers and top stone in preparation for re-railing next week.
The full programme of repairs includes replacing 39 lengths of rail, 5,300 concrete sleepers, 900 wooden sleepers, removing and replacing 10,000 tonnes of ballast during the track replacement and replacing custom-timbers at ten bridges.
The line will remain part-suspended while the complex work programme takes place.
As Rail Insider reported earlier, there is currently no London Overground service between Barking and South Tottenham. A rail replacement bus service has been provided between Walthamstow Central and Barking calling at Leyton Midland Road, Leytonstone High Road (Harrow Green), Wanstead Park and Woodgrange Park to allow passengers to complete their journey while repairs are underway.
