Repairs start on listed bridge in Bolton

Stoneclough Road bridge, a Grade II listed railway bridge next to Kearsley station in Bolton, is to be repaired by Network Rail over the next few weeks.

The improvements, to repair and strengthen the bridge, which carries the to Salford line, started on 21 October 2019. Road restrictions will be in place and the carriageway will be closed completely for two Saturday nights, 26 October and 2 November.

Network Rail , scheme project manager Sarah Padmore said: “The work is vital to ensure the bridge remains safe and reliable for passengers and road users.

“We are grateful for the patience of the local community while the repairs are undertaken and will do all we can to minimise disruption.”

Local residents have been warned that some of the night-time work will be noisy, although rail passengers should not be affected by the bridge upgrade work.

The bridge strengthening and repair work is expected to be complete by Friday 13 December.
