The first of 49 new fully automated eight-car trains for Shanghai Metro’s Line 14 has come off the production line at CRRC Nanjing Puzhen.
With a total length of 38,514 km and 31 stations, Shanghai Metro’s Line 14 will connect Fengbang in the Jiading District in the west to Pudong District’s Jinqiao in the east. Scheduled to enter service at the end of 2020, the line will be both driverless and highly automated under a signalling control system supplied by Thales SEC Transport (TST), the Thales joint venture with Shanghai Electric.
This will be Shanghai’s pilot project for a metro line run by Fully Automated Operation (FAO), with a highly integrated management system incorporating both signalling and supervision solutions.
Shanghai’s new driverless trains are fitted with Bombardier Mitrac propulsion and control systems, supplied by Bombardier’s Chinese joint venture, Bombardier NUG Propulsion System.
