Icomera UK has announced the purchase of Derby-based railway specialist DG8 Design and Engineering.
A subsidiary of French group Engie Ineo, Sweden’s Icomera is a leading provider of passenger Wi-Fi for public transport as part of the digitalisation of public transport that is key to reducing operating and maintenance costs.
DG8, founded in 2008, is experienced in delivering design-led projects from concept to implementation. Its well-established and widely respected design team has primarily worked with clients in the rail transport sector and has extensive experience of the rail vehicle market, working at all tiers of the supply chain.
Announcing the acquisition, Dave Palmer, managing director of Icomera UK, said: “The acquisition of DG8 strengthens Icomera’s ability to deliver the truly interconnected eco-systems of onboard systems and services required for fully realising the potential of the connected vehicle for passengers and operators.
“Icomera and DG8 have successfully collaborated on many projects previously and now the closer integration of the teams makes us even stronger digital partners for our clients.”
DG8 will operate as a separate professional services business unit of Icomera UK and its 33 designers and engineers will continue to work from their current facility in Derby. The team will support system integration and consultancy projects, mechanical and electrical design work, and fabrication and installation services.
