The contract to build the recently announced new station at Horden, near Peterlee in County Durham, has been awarded to Story Contracting.
The station, which is expected to bring an economic boost to east Durham, will feature two 100-metre platforms with shelters connected by an accessible footbridge, as well as a 139-space car park bus stops, a new road, footpath and cycleway. It is expected to open to passengers in spring 2020, with services every hour both north to Newcastle and south to Middlesbrough.
Story will deliver the two new platforms, complete with step free access via a footbridge and ramps. The contract, valued at over £4 million, will also include associated piling, signalling, track realignment, lighting, customer information system, public address, CCTV and platform furniture.

Rail industry projections anticipate that more than 70,000 passengers could use the station each year, providing a useful transport link for residents who work in Newcastle, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Teesside.
