Transport for London (TfL) has announced that Andy Lord will become the new managing director of London Underground and TfL Engineering from 4 November 2019.
Andy joined British Airways as a sponsored Engineering undergraduate and, over the next 25 years, progressed through a variety of senior roles across the airline to become director of operations from 2008 to 2015.
He then moved to Menzies Aviation as executive vice president, covering the European, Middle East, Africa and India (EMEAI) market and leading on negotiating strategic contracts, improving safety and operational performance and profitably growing the business.
He is also a non-executive director for Defence Equipment and Support, Ministry of Defence.
Andy Lord will take over as managing director of London Underground from Nigel Holness, who will be leaving to take up his previously announced position of chief executive for Metro Trains Sydney. He delayed his departure in order to run London Underground after previous boss Mark Wild was appointed CEO of Crossrail Limited last November. Mark Wild will stay as the CEO of Crossrail Limited until the full opening of the Elizabeth Line.
Over the next few months, before Andy joins TfL, Vernon Everitt, currently TFL’s managing director of customers, communication & technology, will cover the position of managing director of London Underground, working with the leadership team to ensure there is a strong business plan and a safe and reliable Tube service.
London’s Transport Commissioner Mike Brown MVO commented on the new appointment: “I am delighted that Andy has agreed to become the new Managing Director for London Underground. I am sure his fresh viewpoint and knowledge will help us continue to deliver reliable and improved services for our customers.
“I also want to thank Nigel Holness for all his work for London Underground over his career and agreeing to be managing director following Mark Wild’s move to Crossrail Limited. Nigel has been instrumental in helping to deliver new signalling, improved and more accessible stations and the introduction of the Night Tube. We wish him all the best in his new role in Australia.”
